About Course

Sustainability and sustainable development are concepts and principles at the core of our future. The term “Sustainable Development” as we recall in the synthetic form: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. The course provides opportunities to develop and demonstrate some learning outcomes.
Knowledge and understanding of: sustainable development management policies, the role of finance for SDGs, the possibilities and limitations of tools for development project design and planning, a range of concepts and frameworks for interpreting development interventions (achievement of objectives, sustainability, capacity building, organizational learning).
Cognitive (thinking) skills means understanding how to be able to: use analytical tools associated with project design and planning (including SWOT, participation and stakeholder analysis, problem trees), use and evaluate the use of logical framework planning tools, reflect on the assumptions behind interventions, design investigations involving appropriate use of different methods for information gathering, critically assess the performance of interventions through monitoring and evaluation, reflect critically on the implications of a public action approach, effectively communicate about development management, support issues with evidence (including reference to readings, case studies, own experience).
The course will also briefly mention the new needs and skills linked to sustainability: support in building an understanding of the context, history, and experience of sustainable development management; stimulate the idea on how to build some of the skills needed for sustainable development management in the key areas in which many development managers work, such as projects, programs, advocacy, partnerships, and policy development.
